On Christmas Eve, around 1812, Pip, a seven years old, encounters an escaped convict in the village churchyard while visiting the graves of his mother, father, and siblings. The convict scares him into stealing food and a file to grind away his shackles. A wealthy spinster, Miss Havisham, asks Pip’s uncle to find a boy to play with her adopted daughter Estella. Pip begins to visit them, and falls in love with Estella. A lawyer approaches Pip and tells him he is to receive a large sum of money from an anonymous benefactor and must immediately leave for London. Assuming that Miss Havisham is his benefactress, he visits her to say good-bye before he sets out for London. The story takes many tumultuous twists and turns in the next few years in their lives.

The book is certainly one of the few books in English literature that have mesmerised generations of children, their fathers and their grandfathers at the same time. Written between 1720 and 1725 this book holds its fort even now. The book is a satire on the society, government, so called intellectuals and humans in general. The book comprises four parts—A Voyage to Lilliput, A Voyage to Brobdingnag, A Voyage to Laputa, Balnibarbi, Lugganagg, Glubbdubdrib, and Japan and A Voyage to the Country of the Houyhnhnms. In each part Gulliver goes on a separate voyage and each voyage is preceded by a storm. All four voyages bring new perspectives to Gulliver’s life and new opportunities for satirizing the ways of England.

Heidi, a little Swiss orphan girl is taken by her Aunt Detie to live with her ‘eccentric’ grandfather. His home is high up on the mountain slopes. Grandfather and Heidi get on very well together, and she settles happily into her new home. She spends many enjoyable hours up on the high pastures with Peter, who looks after the villagers’ goats. She also very much enjoys visiting Peter's blind grandmother. Three years later, her Aunt Detie, who is working in Frankfurt, Germany, comes to see her. She takes Heidi to live in Frankfurt as a companion to a twelve-year-old girl called Clara Sesemann who is an invalid and is unable to walk. As time goes by, Heidi becomes more and more homesick and she starts to sleepwalk; it is at this point that Clara’s doctor insists that Heidi be allowed to return home. Back in the mountains, Heidi shares her belief in God with Grandfather. He is very moved and decides......

How To Stop Worrying and Start Living is a self-help book by Dale Carnegie. Carnegie is considered to be one of the greatest self-help experts, he mentions in the preface that he wrote it because he "was one of the unhappiest lads in New York". He says that he made himself sick with worry because he hated his position in life, which he attributes to wanting to figure out how to stop worrying.
The book's goal is to lead the reader to a more enjoyable and fulfilling lifestyle, helping them to become more aware of, not only themselves, but others also around them. Carnegie tries to address the everyday nuances of living, in order to get the reader to focus on the more important aspects of life.
